Zahida meaning
Zahida (زاہدہ) is a Muslim girl's name of Arabic origin.
Abstinent; one who turns from worldly pleasures to devotion
Also used to mean: pious, devout
Zahida is the feminine of Arabic zāhid, from the root z-h-d. Lane's lexicon defines zāhid as abstaining from or not caring for a thing, and particularly as one who shuns worldly pleasures and gives himself to the service of God: a devotee. The verbal noun, zuhd, is the usual word for this kind of devout self-denial. The root's plain sense of setting little value on something is also in the Quran, where Joseph's brothers sell him cheaply (12:20). Baby-name lists give 'pious', 'devout' or 'abstinent', which follow the dictionary. The masculine form is Zahid.
