Chayan meaning
Chayan (चयन) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin (Bengali usage).
Gathering, collecting; in Bengali, a selection or anthology
Chayan (चयन, Bengali চয়ন) is the Sanskrit noun cayana, from the verb ci, "to gather, pile up". Monier-Williams gives it as accumulating or heaping up, and as collecting. Bengali uses the word for the act of picking or plucking, as in puṣpa-cayana, gathering flowers, and for a collection or anthology of poems or stories; the Samsad dictionary records both senses. In modern Hindi the same word is the usual term for selection. As a boy's name it is heard mainly in Bengali families, where it is also spelt Choyon to match the Bengali pronunciation.
