Pratigya meaning
Pratigya (प्रतिज्ञा) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin.
A promise, vow; agreement, assent
Also used to mean: pledge
Pratigya (प्रतिज्ञा) is the Sanskrit pratijñā, from prati-jñā, "to acknowledge, to promise". Monier-Williams gives admission, assent, agreement, and a promise or vow; it also means a solemn statement, and in Indian logic the proposition to be proved, the first step of the five-part argument. In Hindi the word is familiar from the phrase Bhishma pratigya, an unbreakable vow, after Bhishma's oath in the Mahabharata. Name lists give "pledge", "vow" or "promise". The spelling reflects the Hindi pronunciation of jña; Marathi speakers write Pratidnya.
