Samreen is a girls' name used by Indian and Pakistani Muslims, but it is not a word we could find in the Arabic, Persian or Urdu dictionaries. It is usually explained from samar, the Urdu pronunciation of Arabic thamar, "fruit", which Lane's lexicon defines as the fruit of trees and, figuratively, the result or profit of something; the ending -īn would make it an adjective, "fruitful". Some lists instead connect it with samar, Arabic for "conversation by night". Families use it to mean "fruitful" or "sweet".
